View Full Version : New TV having issues with ps3

So just upgraded from my 27inch LCD to a 40 inch LCD. On the 27 inch the ps3 displayed fine and in widescreen on the tv. But for some reason since putting it on the 40 inch it will not go into the full widescreen as it should. i have checked the settings several times and its all correct. (I am using a hdmi cable) But seems the only way it will display actually taking the entire screen is when I set it to 480p. My tv is 1080p and I let is set automatically as well as manually set it for 1080p and it still only seems to display in old 4:3 format in the middle of the screen.
Just curious if anyone else has had any issues like this, and if they found how to fix it.
Hoping it is not the tv itself as I just bought it and got it home.

Just wanted to add I think it may be the Tv itself. Seems that all my HD channels on the cable box are doing the same exact thing. (Just tried to watch Tron in HD) same result only displayed in the middle of the screen.
However it seems every normal SD channel goes into the full widescreen as it should...
I tried going into the tv settings but see no option to change it to widescreen, zoom or any of the other settings. Think they either gave me a broken remote or one not intended for the actual TV.
Calling them now to see if it may be the TV and if I can get it replaced.

Well appears to be a TV issue not a ps3 issue. They are planning to let us exchange in the 30 inch and upgrade to a 42 inch newer model at no additional cost. So hopefully by tomorrow afternoon/evening I will actually have a working TV again.

Well look to the remote or setup to see if it allows format. If it does try all the format settings (Zoom, Zoom Full, Widescreen, Letterbox, etc..).

yea I tried but didn't see a button for it on the remote. The other issue is it seems that some of the buttons do not work on the remote at all. Found out this was a previously used TV and I think the people who had it before must have spilled something in the remote, But the tv seems to have other issues too. So hopefully the brand new one they are upgrading us to will not have any problems.

Yup was definitely the TV. They came out today and replaced it with a Sharp 40 Inch LED and it works like a charm and much MUCH nicer than the LCD we originally had bought.
